Woman Boxing

Deligh Montoya
Woman Boxers
English 1101
Natalie Beech
The three photos that Montoya pics to represent the story of woman breaking through and the deffiniton of woman becoming, “Malcriadas”. In her essay she uses the word Malcriadas the meaning of this is, woman who will not behave and is determined to do what she wants, regardless of what society rules or even good senesce dictates. I think that this description fits the sport of boxing very well. Because you don't hear of woman who box. Now days there are more woman that box because it isn't looked down upon as much. Montoya states that most Malcriadas are woman who grew up with the role models such as  Wonder Woman (created in 1941 but never fought until the year 1960), the Power Puff Girls (created in 1998) ,and of coarse Cat Woman (created in 1940 she first was seen on Batman than but the one I remember the most is in 1992 with Micelle Pfeiffer). These dates are in the time that woman were working on woman's rights. Trying to wear pant at work instead of dresses, and trying to get the promotion over the guys. I think it is just like any other history story, history  changes. Woman were becoming stronger. I think that is the reason why Montoya choose the pics that she did. In all three photos the woman looked strong, independent, but sill are feminine. I think she choose the second picture, of the two woman fighting on page 213, because it shows the action and the athletic ability of the women. The last photo that she choose is the view of Holm’s back showing the strength but in the photo she is wrapping her hand around her hair which makes the photo feminine. I like the  three different photos that she choose the  view of the face, a view of the back, and one with action. I think the images she choose defined the meaning of woman becoming Malcriadas.
