Final thoughts on what I learned in class!

Final thoughts on class
The first thing that I learned in English 1101 us that you don't have to raise your hand to go to the bathroom. This was my very first semester back to school since I was in High School ten years ago. I learned that you need to turn in all your assignments on time and if you do this you will receive full credit. I learned many things but one that Tyler mad very clear is that if you have any questions come and talk with him and he will help resolve the problem. Rather than to drop a  class. So it taught me to communicate with your  professors. We learned the correct usage of grammar in the class.  English is a hard language and every little grammar rule helps me write better. I learned a few tricks. I know that I am not good at writing and am horrible at grammar/ spelling. Haha but I have learned some correct rules about writing.
Blogging was one of the most interesting things that we got to do. It was fun and interesting to read the rest of the classes thoughts on there blog. It is interesting to see how different people read the same thing but get different meanings out of if. I learned how to wright my thoughts on on my classmates articles. The reviews were helpful in telling you what you are doing right and what you need to work on.  I had never blogged before. In my profession that I am going to school for I will use blogging  often.
The MLA citation was interesting to learn I didn’t know what citation was. Thats embarrassing to say. But knowing how to citation is going to be helpful for the rest of my collage career. Out of the english book reading culture I found out what a six word memoir is. I choose for mine I Am, I Was, I Will Be.
We leaned about what a picture essay versus what a written essay is. Reading about the virtual generation was most interesting to me. I it was great having the chance to write my opinion on my blog. I had quite an opinion abut the Quote, “virtual reality is the death of empathy.” Because I don't believe that it is virtual realties fault I think that it is the lack of parent involvement.  I also don't agree how they dose the kids with medicine because of there ADHD. I think that it is also for the most part lack of parental involvement. And I got to share my opinion on my blog.
The Dungeons and Dragons game was very interesting to learn. I never knew it was a game. Thought it is different. Probably wont ever play it.  My favorite subject that we studied was images. I wrote my final on this subject. I liked looking at the photo’s and tearing them apart to determine what they mean.
I really appreciated this class. I have learned a lot form this class and I can use the skill that I learned rest of my collage career and on. I enjoyed getting to know everyone in the class. It was a very fun and informative class.

There are so many affective ways to advertise. The way that you choose to advertise your product is by knowing who your target audience is. A target audience is who you want to view your ad. So If you want someone who is around the age four to view your ad I would place  your ad somewhere that little kids or parents go like at daycares, play grounds, grocery stores, or child websites like pbskids.org and many more. When advertising it is always important to know who you are trying to reach to view your ad. When you advertise you connect your consume and the product for placement  by looking at the race, age, sex, status, income, etc. The more that you know about your product and target audience the better way you choose how to advertise and the more effective it is.
Here are a few different ideas you should do before you start your advertising campaign for a product. Your first step in creating an ad is research both your product and your  target audience. The next step is to test your product to see what type of demographic that are attracted to this product and how popular it is. After you research your ad and the product you can create an ad that will be noticed, memorable and personal. There are so many images that you see a day you want your consumer to remember your ad. I remember an ad that I found very memorable a whale back.  They used humor. This is a great way to achieve a memorable ad. In this ad it has a photo of a bathroom with toilet paper going into a mouse hole and the words say, “ don’t let them get comfortable.” It was an ad for an exterminator company.

Broadcasting is a fun way to advertise. Broadcasting includes T.V, radio, internet messages, and commercials. In Broadcasting humor in my opinion is the best way to grab attention or the shocking method. Here is a link on you tube to the a commercial that is very memorable “Messing with Sasquatch” www.youtube.com/watch?v=955evS_HCFg. When I watch this ad I actually remember the product. It is a great way to introduce the product because of the humor. My kids love these commercials. When we are at the store they want this product because of the ad.
Product Placement is a less obvious way to advertise. The first product placement noticed was in the famous movie made in 1982 E.T. charters in this movie were eating reese’s pieces. After this  type of advertisement sales increased substantially. Here is a link of the video www.yourube.com/watch?v=AfAzUAxWELU .  Another term for product placement is called “embedding.”  There are pros and cons about product placement or embedding, for instance, when I am watching T.V. I just want to watch my show and wish that they would quit selling during my show but at the same time I do remember the product, and if it is a good ad. I thought it was funny on Wayne’s World when they mocked product placement. In the movie Wayne and Garth are filming their late night public access show. Wayne and Garth are offered corporate sponsorship by Noah Vanderhoff, owner of a local chain of video arcades. Refuses saying “I will not bow to any sponsor” as he mugs for the camera with a Pizza Hut box, followed by a line about not selling out as he holds up a bag of Doritos. The camera then pans over to Garth, who seconds Wayne's objections as he sits dressed head to toe in Reebok. It was very funny to me and I remembered the ad for this reason.
Celebrity advertising is the usage of T.V. ads or print with the use of a celebrity. In celebratory advertising I would have to say the most memorable one for me is the Got Milk Photos. They use celebrities and athletes. This helps attract fans. For instance, if a pro skateboarder was in the ad it would attract all of his fans. Here is a photo of Tony Hawk’s Got Milk ad.

Out door advertising billboards, and signage. you can advertises with large signs on side of a bus or on a score board and stadiums. Out door advertising can be from a huge billboard to the most recent bench-ad. Bench-ads were founded in 1999. In the United States there are more than 250,000 bench ad. In the city of Istanbul they have invented benches that look like an open book and have peen place around the city, each one carries poems from 18 Turkish poets. Here is a photo of some memorable benches.   The more creative and catchy your ad is the more memorial it is.

Pay per click advertising paying to have the web pages placed high on the search engine. Pay per click marketing revolves around keywords. Keyword research, grouping, and organization is the key to creating winning ads. When you click on paid searched ads more often than any other from of digital advertising. The audience  doesn't mind being advertised to, but they want to be offered products that answer their questions and fulfill their needs. So being strait forward and to the point is the most effective way to advertise.  Search engines are forced to cater to searchers and advertisers simultaneously. The searches comprise their user-base whale the advertisers provide them with their revenue stream. Internet promotions is when a pop up ad (flash ad) pops up onto your computer screen and often moves around, and is hard to close. I personally think that it is very annoying and when I see the product at the store that advertised like this I don't want to buy it.
Classified Advertising is for the sale of goods, services, jobs between individuals, usually in smaller locations It is a $50 million dollar global market. There are advantages and disadvantages about advertising with classified ads. The advantages are you can reach a wide range of people to fill the position your searching for. You can search local items like rentals, flats, sales, purchase, lost, missing, found, etc. And you don't necessarily have to have a website to be able to make these types of jobs postings. The disadvantages for classified advertising online is your ad will quickly expire and need to be constantly replaced.  Advertising on one site is not enough to produce great results. Online classified advertising is a great way to generate extra traffic to a website. It is a quick and easy way to advertise and doesn't cost a lot of money.

In Tokyo’s train station they have came up with 10 great ways to advertise. The train station in Tokyo has the largest number of people per day on the planet. Here is the top ten choices of advertisement that Tokyo used. They created their own stage. By creating walls full of advertisements. Two, they used mega stickers. By putting huge stickers on the ground where you walk. The third way that Tokyo is advertising in the train station is fairly new it is called a take away goodies poster campaign. this is where they have covered a wall called a pin-mag. They put goodies on posters and people remove the “goodies to grab” and it reveals the billboard ad. Here is a photo that will explain it better.
pastedGraphic.pdf

The fourth advertisements used is product statues like in this photo below.
 pastedGraphic.pdf

The fifth is product ads by advertising on anything that is used often such as ticket gates. The sixth advertisement is info-rider where they decorate the hand rails of escalators. The seventh is to buy advertisement in signs inside of the rain. The seventh, eight, and ninth run together by decorating the handles inside train and to advertise with signs in 3D being creative and cathy. Lastly they decorate inside the tunnels. They advertise in a smart way by looking at the environment around them and using the most popular areas to advertise.
Out of all of these advertisements my favorite is broadcast because you can use technology to make the ads. There is reality no limit  on your creation. I fell this way to advertise reaches the majority of people. A recent poll in USA today ranked the Super Bowl commercials. Seventy-three percent of the Super Bowl commercials used humor. However, in the Top Ten, ninety percent were humor based.
There is many different types of advertising and they all serves a different purposes to reach there target audience. The more information you know about the product and your target audience the better you will do on selling your ad.
Like I stated above there are so many different ways to advertise. So it is important to make your ad reflect the consumer. There is a small window to grab the audience's attention. Being restricted to a still image means the message must be very clear, strong and catchy.

As quoted by John Berger (1972) seeing comes before words and can never be quite convoyed by them. When I look at a ad with an image it means something completely different than if you were to look at the same ad. Image ads can mean something completely different to each person. This is why it is so important to be direct with your ad. The more that you know and understand you ad and your target audience the better your ad will service when doing a image ad it is important to advertise in the correct area you can deiced this by knowing your products and the target audience. your target audience is  who you want to view your ad. The definition of this is called your target audience demographic.  You need to consider this when you are trying  to target your audience. In your ad you can connect with your consumer by looking at the race, age, sex, status, income, etc. the more that you know about your product and target audience the better your ad will do.
There are a many steps to promote your product but here are a few. Your first step in creating a ad is research both your product and your audience, The next step is to  test  your product to see who this product attracts and how popular it is. There are many ways of advertising here are a few examples:
Broadcast- this includes T.V, radio, internet messages, and commercials.
Product Placement- is a less obvious way to advertise. The first product placement noticed was int he famous movie made in 1982 E.T. charters in this movie were eating reese’s pieces. After this sales increased substantially. Ever since than the type of advertising  grew.

Out door advertising- Billboards, and signage. you can advertises with large signs on side of a bus or on a score board and stadiums.
Celebrity advertising- This is the usage of t.v. ads or print with the use of a celebrity and the ad relates back to all advertising.
Classified Advertising- is for the sale of goods, services, jobs between individuals, usually in smaller locationsIt is a $50 global market.
Location advertising-is advertising by communities, states, cities, or destinations.
Institutional of corporate advertising, also know as image advertise with promotes an organization’s brand, image, people, capabilities, employment opportunities, ideas, or political issues, or anything that the advertiser wants to publicize.
In Broadcasting humor in my opinion is the best way to grab attention or the shocking method. Product placement was used in the most famous  movie  E.T. in 1982 they in which the candy is featured. Reeses‘s Pieces here is a link of the video www.yourube.com/watch?v=AfAzUAxWELU . After E.T.s movie Product placement became very popular. advertisements short and to the point

English 1101
Natalie Beech
In my readings I found some interesting facts on how to make an effective ad that target  the appropriate audience. when you advertise with an image you want it to connect with the targeted audience that you are trying to reach.  Randazzo (1993) said, “ Madison Avenue is in the business of myth making, of creating and perpetuating the myths that reflect and shape our values, sensibilities, and lifestyles. Image is all about targeting the correct consumer. You need to consider this when you are trying  to target your audience. In your ad you can connect with your consumer by looking at the race, age, sex, status, income, etc. the more that you know about your product and target audience the better your ad will do.
So always your first step in creating a ad is research both your product and your audience, The next step is to  test  your product to see who this product attracts and how popular it is. After this research we create a ad that will be noticed, memorable and personal. There are so many images that you see a day you want your consumer to  remember your ad. Here is a link to an ad that I found very memorable a whale back. It is an ad for post-its.  I think it is funny and memorable. The ad is very self explanatory and humorous. Post-it also did a product placement ad in the movie Romie and Michells high school reunion.
There is a small window to grab the audience's attention. being restricted to a still image means the message must be very clear, strong and catchy. Humor is a great way to achieve this. Also using your environment and knowing what and where popular places and things that people touch is very helpful when advertising.

What poses mean

Different meaning of poses
Bruce barton was a North America for BBDO agency in New York. He discovered the iconic American artist Norman Rockwell and work on United War Work campaigns. Bruce became the legendary advertising executive who helped develop the image of General Motors in the 1920. He said, “ the roll of advertising is to help corporations to find their soul.” I like this quote because in my opinion it defines a way to create an image for your target audience. When you create a image ad the way you pose your model is very important. By showing different body parts of people (apart from faces) consumers maybe identify themselves more easily with an advertisement and are more likely to be influenced by the image.
Hands for instance can transfer meanings six were predominate: communication, connection, protection, intimacy, identification and status.
her self at the camera.
-Hands in communication ads targets more of the corporate business world. If an ad shows to people shaking hands it insinuates a business deal.
-Hands in protection this is when a model covers something to protect it, like covering body parts or a small child.

-Hands in connection is used for many things but a great way to explain this ad is by using the Nokia’s phones screen as an example on all the phones have the image of two hands reaching for one another. This means connection.
-Hands as intimacy in ads is when touching different bodies this contact can mean different emotions sexually, friendship, security.
-Hands as identification in ads can be used in many different ways by telling someones age, if they have worked in hard labored jobs, color, sex, scares. This identification helps direct the ad to the target consumer.
-Hands as status in ads jewelry ads use this a lot by wearing your wedding ring on a cretin finger, or
John Berger (1972)  said, “seeing comes before words and it never quite covered by them.”  There are so many images in our daily life so when designing an ad it is important to target the right audience.

different types of advertising

The best way to advertise is to know what consumer your trying to reach to view your ads. Who you want to target the definition of this is called your “target audience.” Demographic information such as age, gender, education, and income level helps define a targeted audience. Knowing this about your consumer helps you decide where to place your ads in the right area.

Story Telling Unit 5

Natalie Beech
English 1101
Unit 5
Story telling
I think I got something completely different than others in unit 5. I did enjoy the story telling and the different types of it. But I also enjoyed learning about images in photos and in ads. A story with a image is way more interesting that one with out. I fell like I can look at a picture now and create a story. Like in the photos of the naked woman with the mirror how she is looking into the mirror and it is now vain. Learning what each little detail in the photo meant was very interesting. And one of the Gucci ads how the man is kissing the woman and the men in the class had a completely different meaning for the ad than Kelly and I. I actually really enjoyed this unit. I like how we studied the Social Network review because I thought it was interesting on how he did his review.   And how he went in with the thought that it is was going to be bad because it is almost impossible to write a movie about someone who is writing a movie/ or a computer program in this case. In this unit I also really enjoyed looking at the ads and determining what kind of consumer they are going for. How the model is posed and what that means.
Story telling can be read through a image or just words. Giovanni’s writing it explains how in most stories their is a wolf that is the demon. And in Chabon’s writing it is more of a  first person story. I enjoyed the Chabon’s writing more because of the fact that  it was written in first person. I found it interesting the difference in the way these two stories were told. I learned that I am more interested in first person story rather than third person stories.

Woman Boxing

Deligh Montoya
Woman Boxers
English 1101
Natalie Beech
The three photos that Montoya pics to represent the story of woman breaking through and the deffiniton of woman becoming, “Malcriadas”. In her essay she uses the word Malcriadas the meaning of this is, woman who will not behave and is determined to do what she wants, regardless of what society rules or even good senesce dictates. I think that this description fits the sport of boxing very well. Because you don't hear of woman who box. Now days there are more woman that box because it isn't looked down upon as much. Montoya states that most Malcriadas are woman who grew up with the role models such as  Wonder Woman (created in 1941 but never fought until the year 1960), the Power Puff Girls (created in 1998) ,and of coarse Cat Woman (created in 1940 she first was seen on Batman than but the one I remember the most is in 1992 with Micelle Pfeiffer). These dates are in the time that woman were working on woman's rights. Trying to wear pant at work instead of dresses, and trying to get the promotion over the guys. I think it is just like any other history story, history  changes. Woman were becoming stronger. I think that is the reason why Montoya choose the pics that she did. In all three photos the woman looked strong, independent, but sill are feminine. I think she choose the second picture, of the two woman fighting on page 213, because it shows the action and the athletic ability of the women. The last photo that she choose is the view of Holm’s back showing the strength but in the photo she is wrapping her hand around her hair which makes the photo feminine. I like the  three different photos that she choose the  view of the face, a view of the back, and one with action. I think the images she choose defined the meaning of woman becoming Malcriadas.

Final Project Proposal

Final Project Proposal and reading list
Natalie Beech
English 1101

Exploring my topic

#1
The topic that I choose for my final project is Images and advertising. I am really interested in this field because it goes along with what degree I want. I am going to school to graduate with an arts degree in Mass Communications and an emphasis in public relations. I will be advertising and putting on events for corporations. So the more that I know about the correct and many different ways of advertising the better. I am really interested in the detail in advertising and the reasoning of the model poses and looking at the camera. I have done all of the writing assignments in the cheaper “Images” but one. So in my reading list the boxing one will be in there.
I also want to learn about all the different kind of ads there are and how some are better than others. Like how sex sales more. I want to find out why. Also I want to find out how to target your certain audience/ reader. And the different types of poses for each ad. Like we did in class. How we talked about all of the different images on the ads.
Like I said I’m very interested in this kind of topic. And I’m excited to learn a lot more in this field.
#2
I choose option “C” a 1500 to 2000 word essay in which you explore a topic of your own  that is based on one of the topics in Reading Culture. I really enjoyed  learning about the meaning of the objects in the photo. For instance,  if there is a mirror in the photo than the ad can be called vain. Or the way that the model is looking away form the camera starring  off this could mean that she is dreaming about her true love. I want to learn about all the different types of image advertising and how to aim it to the correct audience.
Advertising is a multibillion dollar business. And I find it very interesting how to advertise correctly through image. Finding the correct a that works with the product is hard to do. My favorite ads are the ones that relates to the product and the consumer. And the kind of ad that is short and to the point. I enjoy looking at ads that make since. I don't like the ads that make no sense at all. People in these times don't have time to google the product to see what it is that is the ad’s job.

Spring Break movie review

Harry and the Henderson's
Natalie Beech
English 1101

The movie that I watched during spring break was the all time classic “Harry and the Henderson's.”  This movie was made in 1987. It is a comedy. It was directed and filmed by William Dear and produced by Stevin Spillburg. I have never see this movie before this viewing. I have to say it is hilarious!
Harry and the Henderson's is about a family that goes on vacation and accidentally finds Bigfoot by hitting him with their family car. They thought that they killed big foot with the car. So they decide to take him home to make some money off of him. They suddenly he wakes up and destroys the Henderson family household because he is scared of them as much as they are of him. But eventually he became part of the family.
I was at home watching the move with my family and their reactions were great! They laughed and at the end teared up a bit well, I did, they didn’t.  I would recommend the audience is family based. My 4 year old paid attention and enjoyed the move as much as I did.
The point of the movie that I got is the fact how fear is the unknown. People are more fearful about things that they do not understand. This move was made during the perfect time. When people were really in belief that their are other existing animals that are unknown. Like Bigfoot and the Long neck monster, and aliens which lead to another movie E.T.  that Stevin Spillburg created.
All of the actors did a fantastic job. But the one actor named Kevin Hall who played big foot did an amazing job. He is seven feet 5 inches. His expressions and over all performance was fantastic.I would recommend everyone to watch this film.

Review for Giovanni Exploratory writing

Natalie Beech
English 1101
“On the Edge of Comfort”
The Giovanni uses the Wolf to help her explain the role of storytelling in people lives. I think she uses the Wolf as “something to demonize,” but the Wolf/dog has always been there with us. Like what she writes, “just a campfire next to the covered wagon carrying food supplies while the cowboys slept on the cold hard ground that the creature offered warmth and became our friend.” The Wolf has been with us a very long time and has been in so many of our stories and sat next to the fire while they are being told. She also uses that she feel bad for the Wolf. That it has endured so much of what we have and yet we treat them so bad. We all need someone to blame and the Wolf has been something we can blame, but the Wolf has always been there for us and with us. She later writes on that “Quilt across our knees. Check. Glass of Wine. Check. Munchies. Check. Dog at our feet. Check. Short Stories. Check. This is good.” This really ties with what she is trying to say about the Wolf. That he is always there. Always listening to the stories and at our feet.

I choose Joshua’s writing on Giovanni’s “On the Edge of Comfort” because I like how he explains how she uses the wolf as something to Demonize. I agree. Like how the wolf in almost every story is a bad wolf who blows down little pigs houses, or how the wolf eats grandmas and stocks little girls with cookies. But I also like how Joshua points out how the dog/wolf is always been there with us. Dogs are supposedly mans best friend. Joshua points this out in his writing by quoting Giovanni’s writing when she said, “She later writes on that Quilt across our knees. Check. Glass of Wine. Check. Munchies. Check. Dog at our feet. Check. Short Stories. Check. This is good.” This really ties with what she is trying to say about the Wolf. That he is always there. Always listening to the stories and at our feet.” Because dog are mans best friend. I think that wolfs would be like our pet dogs too if they were raised the way we raise our dogs. I liked Joshua’s writing how he said, “just a campfire next to the covered wagon carrying food supplies while the cowboys slept on the cold hard ground that the creature offered warmth and became our friend.” That proves that wolfs can be mans best fiend I still think that people demonized the wolf just because of the werewolf stories that are scary and mysterious.

Social net work calls him an asshole makes him a billionaire

The Social Network  Roger Ebert
Natalie Beech
English 1101
In Roger Ebert review of the “Social Network” movie he says,” the Social Network move is a great film not because of its dazzling style or visual cleverness, but because of it splendidly well-made. Despite the baffling complications of computer programming, web strategy and big finance” earlier in the review Roger says it is said to be impossible to make a movie about a writer, because how can you show him only writing? It must also be impossible to make above about a computer programmer because what is programming but writing in a language few people int the audience know? I never thought of this before. But it is true. Writing a movie based on a person who is writing a story you would have to go into the story not the writer. I think that the move Social Network did a great job going in detail about the computer programmer. I enjoyed the movie myself.
Having big names also helped the movie like, Justin Temverlake and a Victoria secret model and more. It makes me think of the charters from the movie when I’m on Facebook I don't think that I even know what the real Mark Zuckerber looks like.
In Rogers review I like how he explains himself going in to the movie and pre judging the fact that it is known to be impossible for a movie to have good reviews  when it is based on a computer programer. But than at the end of the review he  enjoyed it and he gave a good review.  You can tell why Roger Ebert is good at reviewing movies because of the way he allowed the movie to change his mind. He wasn't stubborn and set in his ways saying it is bad just because of the well know fact that it wouldn't be good because of what it was based on. He actually let the move take charge of his own opinion.

Chabon Exploratory Writing Assignment
“Amateur Family”
“Fanboy gets tossed around a lot these days, but two of my children are female, and fanchild is not a word, and the term was originally coined to describe and deprecate a kind of mindless, by-the-greasy-handful consumption of popular culture, uncritical, automatic halfway to zombie.” This is one of the reasons why the term fan doesn’t work for what Chabon wants to get across about the concept of amateurism for fandom. He writes that he doesn’t think there is a perfect word for the kind of people he has raised his children to be. He does however go on to say that “amateur” is a word he could possibly use to describe him and his family. I think he gains a lot by use amateurism. If he just said him and his family was amateur I might think differently about it. Then the way he explains it, that fan is based around and used a lot with ESPN and sports pages. When you think about it that way fan doesn’t really fit his nerd family. When he explains amateurism I think he gains a lot. If he would have used fan he think he would have a lost a lot of respect.

I choose Joshua’s because it is the complete opposite of what I said. He said, “He does however go on to say that “amateur” is a word he could possibly use to describe him and his family. I think he gains a lot by use amateurism.” But I disagree because I said amateur is related more to sports and fan in my opinion is related to anything that someone enjoys to collect or follow. With the word amateur it is related to money in my opinion.
Another part of his writing that caught my attention is when Joshua said, “When you think about it that way fan doesn’t really fit his nerd family. I can see  what Josh is saying that Fan is more sports related but I think that amateur is more sports related. In Michaels writing it is difficult to decide if “fan” or “amateur” is better to use. I think neither of them are the correct word to use. I think that they have so many  different people relate these words  to different meanings that it doesn't define this essay at all.

In  Michael Chabon’s essay he says that he reject the term fan in favor of amateur. I think that Michael used the wrong word for this story. In Michaels story he say’s, “Fanboy gets tossed around a lot these days, but two of my children are female, and fan child is not a word.” I think that Michael doesn't like this word because of this reason. I bet if he had all boys this wouldn’t have came to his mind.
The definition of amateur is a person who engages in a study, sport, or other activity for pleasure rather than for financial benefit or professional reasons.  And the word “fandom” is a term used to refer to a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of sympathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest. A fandom can grow up centered around any area of human interest or activity.
Now knowing the definitions of these words I think amateur is the wrong word to use. When I hear amateur I think of sports. Like professional skater or pro snowboarders, and than amateur skaters and amateur snowboarders. I my mind I see this word used for sports rather than a love for a hobby like this story. I know a lot of professional skateboarder that skate for the love not the money oviously because they get paid crap. A lot of amateur skaters are skating for love also.
I think that the word amateur means to not get paid and the word professional means to get paid. Its all about money with this word.

On the Edge

On the Edge
Natalie Beech
English 1101
When I read Giovannis  “On the edge” writing I notice how she asked, “why the wolf in most stories is demonized?”
I think that in most stories especially Disney ones there is a charter that is demonized. For instance,  the Little Mermaid  the Octopus and the eel were the charters that were demonized in that story. Another kind of charter that seems to be demonized a lot is Kings and Queens helpers. the wolf in Little Red Ridding Hood, or The Three Pigs, and even Pinochio. But why the wolf? I wonder if this is because of the legend of werewolf's. When you add struggle and fear to a story it gets me “On the Edge” of my comfort.
I enjoy mystery stories especially stories that are based off of a real events. It makes you think a lot. Most of the mystery stories have a demonized charter in them and I enjoy guessing who it is. My favorite book was a book based on a true event. The book was called “A Child Called It.” This book was about a child that was brutally abused by his mother, I think this book for me made me realize that not all kids have a wonderful home. I am a clown so when I do birthday parties or make a simple balloon animal for a child I try to make it the best time that they have ever had. Because I don’t know what their home life is like. All that I know is that if I can make them laugh and smile for a minute that I’m happy with that.
Happy stories are nice also, but I still seems like every happy story has a demonized charter. I think it just adds to the story. Starts out good, than goes bad, than someone saves the story. This story line is in super hero stories also. Almost every great movie that is written from a book almost aways has a demonized person or animal in it. In my opinion it gives you a sense of wonder and fear and it attracts readers.

IMAGES IN UNIT FOUR

Jeff J. Beck

Unit Four Thesis
Unit Four
There was a lot that we went over in unit four but I think that we learned a lot and me for one look at advertisements and images in a whole new way.  We talked about things from long ago and what art is, to who is hot, who is not, and how sex sells.  Most of the point in this was to get use looking at images in a different light and to make us more educated.
When we focus on unit four we have to focus on what is not just in the picture but what it is telling us.  For instance before I read this unit I would look at a picture and just not really think about it.  I now look at an image and instead of just looking at it and doing what society does or thinks, I take a step back and actually look at it from a couple different points.  Not only where the images informative, but I can now look at writing as something much more than just letters in a computer, on a piece of paper, or in a text.
This to me makes me even look at how something is written as more of an image, you talked to us about how writing is just simply writing but is an image in its self, and until now I kind of understood it but now I really get what you are saying. This unit was very eye opening and in many ways not just in imagery but also in ways of how we look at a person.  This section from unit four was not only a part about how we look at individuals, but it made me look at it as an image but something more.  This unit makes you understand images that appear in art, advertisement, pictures, and also in writing, if you actually paid attention to it all.

I choose Jeff’s because I think we had a lot of the same ideas. Unit 4 was how the spectator looked at the art and how we interpreted it. I completely agree with Jeff when he said, “before I read this unit I would look at a picture and just not really think about it.  I now look at an image and instead of just looking at it and doing what society does or thinks, I take a step back and actually look at it from a couple different points. I do that now and I don’t even mean to I see a pic of art and I also start examining it.
Another point that Jeff made that I agreed with was when he said, “This unit was very eye opening and in many ways not just in imagery but also in ways of how we look at a person.  This section from unit four was not only a part about how we look at individuals, but it made me look at it as an image but something more.
You can judge a person just buy looking and I think that is what Jeff is saying instead of getting to know the person, people just look and jude. Just like art. If you look at a art piece and have no knowledge of art you would maybe look at it completely different than someone with a art major.
